International Association of Environmental Mutagen Societies
The goal of the IAEMS is to support and encourage international cooperation among member societies and individuals engaged in research on the causes and consequences of exposure to genotoxic substances in the environment. A major function of the IAEMS is to promote the organization and sponsorship of an International Conference on Environmental Mutagens (ICEM) to be held at least once every four years. The Society also seeks to encourage research and education in the field of environmental mutagenesis on a worldwide basis, with an emphasis on improving education and information transfer within countries and at sites where environmental exposure and contamination is most prevalent and pervasive and where assistance is needed. To better carry out this function the IAEMS seeks to establish and maintain liaisons with international organizations to promote and facilitate collaboration and education within the field of environmental mutagenesis. |
The IAEMS now has a new Constitution, an interim Scientific Steering Committee, and a Foundation. The Foundation is comprised of working groups on genotoxicity testing, education and training, international research, and scientific assessment. In addition, there are two successful international conferences that now fall under the management and direction of the IAEMS. With the combined capabilities and strengths of these organizational units, the new IAEMS has the potential to become a vital force for international science communication, education and research. |
